How to break the legacy of shame (even on a cold day)

Let’s be honest – winter is a b*tch.

The sky hangs low.
The days are damp and dim.
It’s one long parade of lost gloves and bad lighting.

December rolls in and suddenly even the simplest tasks – like leaving the house – feel downright heroic.

The couch becomes a fortress. The gym, a distant memory. The good times? Gone. Vapor.

But the part that really takes me down isn’t the weather. It’s what I do about the weather. Or rather, what I do to myself about the weather.

See, when I get low – I mean really low, couch-bound and crusty – I don’t just feel bad. I punish myself for feeling bad.

It happens lightning quick. Almost elegant in its cruelty. A whisper in my ear saying, “You should be better than this” and “You have no reason to complain.”

And there it is. The REAL winter. Not the sleet or the wind chill, but the internal frostbite of self-judgment.

When men get pissed off they yell at traffic, punch a wall, kick a can, and move on.

But women? We metabolize our rage. We eat it. Turn it inward. Let it churn and burn in our system. Because that’s what we were taught to do.

So when the darkness hits – and it will – we don’t scream at the sky. We scream at ourselves…for being too emotional. Too tired. Too much.

And that, sister, is where self-hatred slips in. Unexpressed anger is not neutral, it has to go somewhere. And more often than not, it turns into shame.

Shame about our bodies. Our age. Our skin. Our stretch marks. Shame about how much we want. How much we feel. How deeply we ache.

Self-hatred is the new smoking. And trust me, it’s just as toxic.

Here’s what I mean…

A woman who thinks she’s nothing does not demand a raise.
She does not leave the man who mistreats her.
She does not stand for the relationship she craves.

When the world tells her no – she believes it. And worse, she makes that “no” her home.

So what if you didn’t?

What if this was the winter you pulled the sword from the stone?
What if, instead of swallowing the pain, you let it roar?
What if you kissed your reflection instead of critiquing it?

What if you became the kind of woman who reroutes the legacy entirely? Not just for yourself, but for every daughter, niece, sister, and friend who’s been trained to forget her own worth?

This is the work now. To disrupt the inheritance of shame and break the lineage of self-loathing. To become a source of radiant self-devotion that no season, no man, no story can erase.

Yes, it takes guts and practice.
Yes, you’ll forget and remember and forget again.

But the choice is yours.

You can marinate in the staleness of self-reproach. Or you can become a woman whose very presence changes the atmosphere.

Who perfumes the room with her pleasure. Who leaves behind a scent trail of hard-won self-reverence.

So go ahead and hate winter. But love the hell out of yourself.

And while you’re at it, hit reply and tell me:

What old self-hating habit are you throwing on the fire today?
What sword are you pulling from the stone?
How are you celebrating the masterpiece that is you?

With so much love and pleasure,
