A note from Mama Gena
When I wrote On Our Knees, I wasn't trying to write another self-help book. I was trying to tell the truth.
About what it feels like when the life you've built no longer fits the woman you've become. About the moments that bring us to our knees — not to punish us, but to introduce us to parts of ourselves we've not yet had the courage to meet.
I have spent thirty years gathering women in rooms together. And one thing has become undeniably clear: no woman transforms because she reads beautiful words. She transforms because she is willing to let those words rearrange her life.
That is what I want for you. To have this book bring something home. An old story. An old fear. An old way of moving through the world that has been costing you more than you know.
I want us to read slowly and stop often. To dance. To question. To tell the truth. Because there are books you complete. And there are books that complete you.
I hope you'll join me.
This is no ordinary book club
Not really.
Yes, we'll all be reading the same book. Yes, we'll gather each week to talk about the chapters.
But if you're picturing polite conversation over wine and cheese while everyone takes turns discussing symbolism — you've wandered into the wrong room.
This is the School of Womanly Arts. We don't simply absorb teachings. We practice them. We dance them. We question them. We resist them. We surrender to them.
That's the magic. Not the chapters themselves. But what happens inside you once you've read them.

HOW we'll spend our tuesdays
Every Tuesday in October from Noon - 1:30 PM Eastern, we gather on Zoom:
- Session #1 | October 6
- Session #2 | October 13
- Session #3 | October 20
- Session #4 | October 27
We begin the way we always begin — with music, movement, brags. Because a woman who has just danced for three minutes and told the room one true thing about her life is a completely different woman than the one who logged on sixty seconds ago still half-inside her inbox.
Then Mama Gena reads from the week's chapters. Live. In her voice. The way these words were always meant to land.
Then she teaches. Goes deeper than the book could go.
Then we do one of the book's initiations together. As the real thing — because the only way this work changes you is if you actually let it touch you.
And then the circle opens. Bring the chapter that wrecked you. Bring the question you were afraid to ask. Bring the part of you that isn't sure this is going to work.
There is room for ALL of it here.

The On Our Knees Experience — $97
For over three decades, women have traveled across the country — and around the world — to sit in a room with Mama Gena.
This October, all you have to do is open your laptop.
We built this experience because we wanted the doorway into this work to be wider than it has ever been before. More accessible. More open. More ready for the women who are ready for it.
And speaking of accessibility... because you joined us for the LIVE book launch party, you're eligible for an exclusive attendee discount. Take $200 off the regular price of $297 through Sunday, August 31st at midnight ET.
WHY WE CREATED THIS CONTAINER
Most of us were taught to read something and move on to the next thing. But every now and then, a book refuses to stay inside its binding.
It follows you into your marriage. Your friendships. Your work. It interrupts an argument. It whispers to you while you're standing in line at the grocery store. It sits on your nightstand and asks a question you aren't ready to answer yet.
And before you know it — you're no longer reading the book. The book is reading you.
On Our Knees is that kind of book. And when it arrives in the world this August, thousands of women will devour it and put it back on the shelf.
But come October, a more intimate group of us will do something different. We'll live it. Week by week. Together.
Because something extraordinary happens when you explore these teachings in sisterhood...
One woman's courage becomes another woman's permission. One woman's breakthrough becomes another woman's beginning. One woman's tears become an entire room remembering they don't have to keep pretending they're fine.
About the Book
On Our Knees: Loving Your Life Even When You Hate What's Happening is Mama Gena's most intimate and revealing work to date.
Part memoir. Part mythology. Part invitation.
Across ten chapters inspired by ten powerful feminine archetypes — from Aphrodite to Kali, Lilith to Inanna — you'll move through desire, heartbreak, ambition, grief, joy, failure, surrender, and the wild, untamed aliveness waiting beneath the life you've been told to settle for.
Whether you've followed Mama Gena's work for decades or this is your very first introduction to the School of Womanly Arts, this experience will bring every chapter off the page and into your own life.
YOUR FOUR WEEKS
Week One | The Floor Becomes the Door
Chapters 1–3: Aphrodite. Turning Up the Heat. The Courtesan.
Surrender is not collapse. It is not lying down so the world can take what it wants. It is the doorway — the place where everything that couldn't fit inside your old life finally has room to breathe. We begin here, because every other week is built on it.
Week Three | The Woman Who Will Not Lie Beneath
Chapters 7–8: Lilith. Psyche.
Sovereignty and its cost — and then permission to have failed spectacularly. Lilith is heavy. Psyche is the relief. We end this week laughing, which you will need before we go where week four takes us.
Week Two | Power & the Burning Down
Chapters 4–6: Freya. Kali. The Mother-Daughter Wound.
The heaviest week. The one where the group either forms or it doesn't. Kali burns what needs to burn. The mother wound is where the crying starts. Come ready.
Week Four | The Descent, the Return, the Testimony
Chapters 9–10: Inanna. Pachamama.
Inanna chose her descent. That is the whole book in one image. We go down together — and we come back up together. We close by witnessing each other. The real woman. The one who showed up, read the pages, danced, cried, and dared to let this book change her.
This is for you if...
- You've been longing for a way to stay close to Mama Gena's work between programs.
- You've been craving a circle of women who are willing to tell the truth.
- You've read enough personal growth books to know that insight, by itself, doesn't create change — and you're ready for something that actually moves through you.
- You've been waiting for the right time to finally put yourself first.
- You've never experienced the School of Womanly Arts before and have been looking for the perfect place to begin.
- Or you've danced with us for years and know that every time Mama Gena opens a new doorway, you want to be one of the first women through it.
Whether this is your first experience with us or your fiftieth — you belong here.

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH
It's impossible to predict exactly what four weeks will awaken. Every woman enters through a different doorway.
Some come longing for more pleasure. Others come carrying heartbreak they've run out of ways to hold. Some arrive exhausted from keeping everyone else's lives running. Others simply know there's something inside them that has been waiting — patiently, stubbornly — to be remembered.
Wherever you're beginning, my hope is the same.
That you leave with a deeper trust in yourself. With practices you can return to long after October has ended. With friendships that were born from telling the truth in a room where it was safe to do so. With the quiet, unshakeable courage to meet your own life differently.
And with a well-loved, dog-eared copy of On Our Knees that is no longer just a book — but a record of the woman you became while reading it.
About the Author
Regena Thomashauer — known the world over as “Mama Gena” — is the founder of the School of Womanly Arts and the New York Times bestselling author of Pussy: A Reclamation and four other books. For over three decades she has taught hundreds of thousands of women to use pleasure as a portal to their own power. On Our Knees is her most raw, most personal, and most transformative work yet.
There are books you complete.
And books that complete you.
There is a moment that happens in every Womanly Arts classroom.
A woman raises her hand. She begins telling a story she has never spoken aloud before. Halfway through, her voice catches. Her eyes pan the room.
And in the loving, grief-soaked gaze of her sisters, she sees she is no longer carrying that burden alone.
This is the earthly alchemy that changes us.
The witness of sisters. The support of community. The breathtaking, physical relief of discovering that the thing she believed made her strange — the grief, the hunger, the part of her that has never quite fit — is often the very thing that makes her belong.
We cannot wait to welcome you into this circle.
