Six ways women stay stuck (and call it self-care)

There’s a moment in every woman’s life when the desire to change becomes unbearable…and yet she doesn’t move.

Instead, she keeps spinning in the same old orbit, chanting the same stories, performing the same roles with theatrical precision.

You know what this looks like: Jobs that numb us. Relationships that dim us. Cities that ghost our joy.

Why?

Because it’s safe to suffer in known territory. It’s much harder to fling yourself into the gorgeous terror of something new.

Usually, it takes a collapse to wake us up. A rupture so violent it rips the pattern clean. A diagnosis. A betrayal. A moment when life whispers, “Move, or I’ll move you.”

But even then, we hesitate.

We say we’re “thinking it through,” when we’re really just slow-dancing with paralysis.

We hold roundtable discussions with our fear, run spreadsheets on our intuition, and analyze the architecture of our cages instead of walking the f*ck out.

Because change, real change, requires one unbearable thing: a decision. And most women I know would rather wrestle a crocodile than make one.

Indecision may look harmless on the outside, but inside, it’s embalming your aliveness.

You sit there, making pros-and-cons lists so long they could qualify as dissertations, and in the meantime? Your life is quietly passing you by.

See, there are patterns to this kind of stuckness. Six predictable traps, in fact. And every woman I know has fallen into at least one.

Let’s name them, shall we?

1. We delay the leap. We tell ourselves we’ll do it later. When the kids are older. When the money’s better. When Mercury’s not in retrograde. But you already know: later is a lie. Later is a coffin for your desire.

2. We try to think our way to clarity. You can’t logic your way into a life that wants to be felt. Feeling is the only compass that doesn’t lie. If you’re hosting internal TED Talks titled “Why I Can’t Yet”, you’re probably running from a truth that’s already burning through your body.

3. We censor our wanting. A woman’s desire is the most radical force on earth…and it’s also the most policed. We’re taught to explain, edit, and apologize for what we want before it’s even spoken aloud. We try to long for “normal” things. Things that won’t scare the neighbors. But desire doesn’t do normal; she does revolution. She burns every house that can’t hold her.

4. We outsource our authority. We keep asking people who fear their own power to bless ours. We consult tea leaves, tarot decks, partners, and priests – anyone who’ll confirm what we already know. We ask, “What do you think I should do?” when what we mean is, “Please save me from my own knowing.” But nobody else can authorize your becoming. That’s an inside job.

5. We isolate. Not to rest, but to rot. We ask small thinkers for big advice, then wonder why our courage disappears. We forget that sisterhood is the oxygen mask for decision-making. You need women who are actively disobeying their own conditioning to remind you that you can, too.

6. We make peace with pain. Misery is easy. Mediocrity is addictive. It takes zero effort to stay numb. But a woman choosing her aliveness? That’s the ultimate gamble. It’s raw, risky, and unpolished – but holy hell, it’s real. And it’s the only way you’ll ever get the life you ache for.

Here’s the truth no one tells you: a real decision will feel like a quiet but seismic exit from everything you’ve known.

It cuts the old version of you loose. And requires you to risk being seen in your next evolution – before she’s fully formed, before you know what the hell you’re doing.

But this is where expansion begins. Not in safety. In the sharp edge of choice.

You do not need a five-step plan. You do not need anyone’s blessing. You just need one clear yes that vibrates louder than your fear.

And yep, it will feel like dying, because it is. The small you is dying so the sovereign you can live.

Let her go.

The woman who’s waiting on the other side of that choice already knows the way.

So tell me, sister – where are you still embalmed in maybe? And what might happen if you stopped asking for a sign and became one?
