It is a tender time, my loves.
For oh so many reasons, for oh so many of us.
May you feel loved and held today.
I wanted to let you know that Peter and I have ended our partnership.
We have been together, and then not together, and then back together for 8 long years.
And now? We have come to a completion, a graduation, a conclusion.
My friend and coach Annie Lalla likes to use graduation as a metaphor for completing long partnerships, as it describes a process of coming to the end of what two beloved people can teach each other – releasing one another to the ‘what’s next’ of life.
I like this metaphor because Peter and I have expanded and grown so much through our time together.
We have lived, loved, learned, and blended our families.
We have travelled together on the inner and outer realms.
Our friendship remains true, powerful, and enduring – even as our romantic partnership comes to a close.
With Peter, I learned to receive so much unconditional love and support.Â
When sh*t got real, he had my back, and I had his. I learned how to love bigger than my own ego, and to truly love him as a magnificent and imperfect being (just like myself). I learned to love myself more, because of the way he loved and stood for me.
My heart is both broken, and yet settled and relieved, at the same time.
His next steps no longer match mine.
Nor mine, his.
And so, I gently let go of his hand – the one that has had my back through so many years and challenges – and move toward what is even more true, with a heart full of love, grief, and tenderness.
May you feel tenderly loved today and every day.
With so much love,
