Here’s the raw, unvarnished truth.
I am eight years deep into a love affair that defies every rule I ever wrote for myself. With a man who loves me more fully, more fiercely, more tenderly than any man ever has.
And yet…there is a quiet storm that still swirls in me.
Shouldn’t I feel more certain by now? Shouldn’t I be shouting his name from the rooftops and building the rest of my life around this love?
But the mind, oh that tricky minx, has her own agenda. She whispers old stories of scarcity and survival:
“He makes less money than you—how will that work?”
“Isn’t there someone better, more impressive, more… something?”
“Aren’t you settling?”
And if I’m really honest, those whispers have their roots deep in a little girl who didn’t quite feel the warmth of unconditional love.
A girl who learned to stand on her own two stilettos, to build her own empire, to never need a man.
Could it be that part of my hesitation stems from never having experienced this kind of love before? The little girl who learned to perform for affection, to earn love through achievement rather than simply receiving it for being herself—she sometimes doesn’t trust what comes easily.
When love arrives without the familiar struggle, without having to contort myself into someone else’s expectation, a part of me gets suspicious. What’s the catch? she asks. When will the other shoe drop?
Learning to receive love has been harder than I ever expected. To stand in the warm glow of Peter’s adoration without flinching, without deflecting, without trying to earn what’s freely given—this has been my greatest work.
But then, my body. Oh, my glorious, ravenous, knowing body.
She arches toward him in her sleep. She sighs with relief in his arms. She doesn’t give a damn about his bank account or his résumé. She only knows that in his embrace, she is home.
Here’s what I keep coming back to, sisters: my body has never lied to me. And my body loves this man.
When words fail and my mind spins with uncertainty, I drop into sensation. The way my cells seem to relax in his presence. The way pleasure flows when we’re connected. The deep, expansive yes that rises from my core when he touches me with tenderness.
This isn’t the fleeting electricity of new romance—it’s the slow-burning, soul-deep recognition that has only grown richer with time. My body recognizes something my analytical mind sometimes questions: this connection nurtures me at a fundamental level.
And that, my love, is the paradox of a turned-on woman.
I don’t have a perfectly packaged ending to this story. I’m living it. I’m dancing with it. I’m letting it be messy and wild and beautifully unresolved. I am off-map.
Because sometimes, certainty isn’t the goal. Aliveness is.
And right now, my body is alive. My heart is open. And that is more than enough.
Stay tuned, darling.
This love story isn’t finished yet. And it’s more than I ever hoped for.
With love and pleasure,
Regena
P.S. Let me ask: Where in your life are you learning to trust the wisdom of your body over the doubts of your mind? Where might you be carrying stories that no longer serve the woman you’ve become?
P.P.S. Know a sister who’s caught between what her body knows and what her mind still questions? Share this with her. Let’s keep passing the torch.
